Testimonials

Clay for Kids came to my grade 2 classroom to make Inukshuks with them. The students were given clear instructions every step of the way and they all came up with beautiful, unique works of art. Clay for Kids took care of firing the clay and returning it to the school when it was ready. The kids are proud of what they have created and I am thankful I could give them this opportunity (all without leaving school). The cost was very reasonable and I would definitely recommend this program.
- Jeanine Kowalchuk, teacher

Thank you very much for coming in to make the beautiful insects on a leaf. My Grade Twos really enjoyed the afternoon.
- Bev Arena, teacher, Beddington Heights

Thank you for coming to our school and teaching us how to make Iroquois Spirit Masks.
- Mr. Campbell and class, St. Philip

Clay for kids was superb, the project really connected with the children, the timing was amazing, the organization of the actual hands on part was terrific. I have never had an event go so great.
- Cathy Abernethy, Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization of Alberta

The Kindergarten children loved learning about and working with Clay for Kids. They were thrilled to use their hands to create clay angel plaques for their parents for Christmas.
- Karie Holt, teacher, Daly Grove School

Thank you for coming to Roland Michener School and the great opportunity you gave our grade 1/2's. It was another dimension to their artistic growth and appreciation.
- Gillian Hopkins, teacher

It was probably the most fun our class has had this year. It was a blast. I personally really enjoyed it and I think everyone else did to. I hope you come again soon to make some more clay sculptures or items.
- Robbie, grade 6 student

We had our entire student enrolment participate in Clay for Kids projects. There have been many positive comments about both the instruction and the enthusiasm of our children.

Procedures for a Class

The following is a brief outline of how your class will proceed:

  1. We will need a table or desk located near an electrical outlet for the pottery wheel demonstration. Participants each need a spot to work at on a table.
  2. There should be one package of paper towels and an ice cream bucket or a bowl filled with water on the instructor's table.
  3. During a ten to fifteen minute demonstration at the start of the class, we will talk to the children about clay and make a cup on our pottery wheel.
  4. We will then give the initial instructions for the desired project. The children will return to their table and proceed with their project, stopping once or twice to receive additional instructions.
  5. The children will need individual or shared small containers of water and 2 round double- pointed toothpicks.
  6. Please remember to provide nametags for each child.

for Teachers too

We also provide professional development seminars for teachers. This is a great team building activity and each teacher creates a more complex project. It will also provide a better understanding of the educational benefits of working with clay that students will experience in a class. The Clay for Kids method of instruction, the design of projects and firing techniques are discussed.
